All Member Meeting | AMM | Meeting of the Constituency Labour Party open to all eligible members. |
All Women Shortlist | AWS | Process to increase representation of women in Parliament by reserving 50% of winnable seats for women candidates. |
Annual General Meeting | AGM | Yearly business meeting at which the financial accounts are presented, reports of the past year’s work are given, officers are elected and standing orders are amended. |
Assembly Member | AM | Member of the Welsh Assembly |
Canvassing | Can refer to asking people for support at election time, but it’s also used to refer to the issues-based campaigning done throughout the year, not just at election time. We talk to people all year round so when it comes to election time, we know what matters to them, and they know why they should vote for us. | |
Constituency Labour Party | CLP | Division of the Labour Party based on the electoral district for the MP. |
Delegate | Person elected to represent the CLP at conferences. | |
Door knocking | Is an incredibly effective form of canvassing. It’s when a small team of volunteers will knock on people’s doors and have a conversation face to face | |
Executive Committee | EC | Sub group of the Constituency Labour Party, consisting of key officers and representatives from affiliates, that oversees local party business. |
Labour Group | Grouping of all the Labour Councillors in a local authority. | |
Local Campaign Forum | LCF | Grouping of representatives from all CLPs in the same local authority with responsibility for overseeing local election campaigning and identifying candidates for council elections. |
National Executive Committee | NEC | Governing body of the Labour Party, comprising the Leader and Leader, with representatives from the EPLP, PLP, councils, CLPs, socialist societies and trade unions. |
National Policy Forum | NPF | Body that oversees policy development outside of conference, with representation from all sections of the Labour Party. |
North Wales Consultative Committee | NWCC | Run under the auspices of the Welsh General Secretary the committee is made up of delegates from each CLP in North Wales |
North Wales Labour Women | NWLW | Women’s officers from across North Wales who meet to provide help and support for Women’s Officers. |
One Member One Vote | OMOV | Ballot system used for Labour Party elections, such as the Leader and Deputy leadership elections, where all members receive one vote and all votes carry equal weight. |
Parliamentary Labour Party | PLP | Collective body of Labour MPs. |
Phone banking | Is all about talking to members and electors over the phone, usually carried out by a group of volunteers | |
Policy Forum | Local or regional meeting of Labour Party members to discuss issues and feed views into the policy process. | |
Standing Orders | Set of rules governing local Labour Party structures. | |
Trade Union Liaison Officer | TULO | CLP officer elected to build links with local trade unions. |
Women’s Committee | Women’s officers from across Wales who meet to provide help and support for Women’s Officers and formulate policies on issues impacting women. | |
Welsh Executive Committee | WEC | Governing body of Welsh Labour. It sets the Party objectives and performs a similar function to the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in respect of devolved responsibilities

Women’s Forum | Part of the Labour Party’s equality structures, a constituency-wide body open to all women members in the area. |
